DJI Avata 360 vs DJI Avata 2: Which FPV Drone Should You Buy?
Two cinewhoop-style DJI FPV drones with very different cameras. Here is how to choose, and what goes in the box.

· 6 min read · Flight Operations Team
DJI makes two of the most approachable FPV drones for pilots who want immersive flying without building a drone from parts. The DJI Avata 2 is a 4K FPV drone with a proven design, and the new DJI Avata 360 captures 360-degree video that you can reframe after the flight. This guide compares them and explains the goggles and combos.

DJI Avata 360: shoot first, frame later
The DJI Avata 360 records 360-degree video with a dual-lens system at 8K and 60 fps with HDR. Because the camera captures everything around the drone, you choose the angle in editing, so you never miss the shot. It weighs about 455 g, offers about 23 minutes of flight and senses obstacles in every direction. Choose it if you want creative freedom, action footage and 360-degree content.
It comes in several kits: the drone only, with the DJI RC 2, and as a Fly More Combo with extra batteries and a charging hub.
DJI Avata 2: the 4K FPV drone
The DJI Avata 2 has a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and records 4K up to 60 fps. At about 377 g it is lighter than the Avata 360, with up to 23 minutes of flight. Choose it if you want a straightforward FPV drone, standard framed 4K footage and a lower weight. See the Fly Smart Combo and Fly More Combo kits.
Goggles and controllers
FPV flying needs goggles. The DJI Goggles 3 are the premium option, while the DJI Goggles N3 is the lower-cost choice. Add a DJI RC Motion 3 for intuitive motion flying or the FPV Remote Controller 3 for stick control. Browse controllers and goggles.
Building your DJI FPV drone kit
- The drone: Avata 360 or Avata 2.
- Goggles: Goggles 3 or Goggles N3.
- A controller: motion or stick, depending on how you want to fly.
- Spare batteries: Avata 360 battery or Avata 2 battery.
- A charging hub and spare propellers.
Getting started with FPV flying
If you are new to FPV, begin in a wide, open area with no people or obstacles, fly in daylight and light wind, and keep your first sessions short. Learn how the return-to-home function behaves before you rely on it, start in the gentlest flight mode and move to more manual modes only when you are comfortable. A spotter beside you keeps the drone in sight while you wear the goggles.
Editing 360-degree footage from the Avata 360
The Avata 360 records everything around the drone, so the edit is where you choose the shot. You can reframe the clip, pick the angle and the direction of travel, and export standard flat video for social platforms, or keep the full 360-degree view for immersive content. Plan extra time and storage for editing, because 8K footage creates large files.
Which kit should you choose?
- First FPV drone: an Avata 2 Fly Smart Combo with goggles and a motion controller.
- Content creator: the Avata 360 Fly More Combo for extra batteries and the reframing freedom.
- Already own goggles: the drone-only kits keep the price down.
Flying FPV safely in Australia
FPV pilots wear goggles, so you cannot see the whole sky. CASA expects you to keep the drone within visual line of sight, which in practice means flying with a spotter beside you who watches the aircraft. Follow the standard operating conditions on the CASA website, and read our FAQ for the main rules.
Frequently asked questions
Is the DJI Avata 360 better than the DJI Avata 2?
They suit different jobs. The Avata 360 records 8K 360-degree video you can reframe, while the Avata 2 records 4K up to 60 fps in a lighter body. Choose by the footage you want.
Do I need goggles to fly the DJI Avata?
The goggles give the immersive FPV view and are part of the intended experience. Buy a combo that includes them, or add DJI Goggles 3 or Goggles N3 separately.
How long do the Avata drones fly?
Both offer about 23 minutes per battery, so a Fly More Combo with spare batteries is worth considering.
